Don't bring a frown to Broadway...

Hello. That is Alana. This is Alana's blog. What are you doing here? Anyhow, don't mind the random ramblings or the countless exclamation marks, because I'm probably on a sugar high. Well, bye! (Hey, that ryhmes =P)

Wait, before you go, do check out the Photos! (Hey that ryhmes too! ^_-).

P.S. Mucho gracias to HRM Dhany Baby Ramadhany for the picture of me! Hahah!

Amazing Grace

"Amazing Grace" - Jars of Clay

I grew this heart into a drifter
I never felt the roots I bare
I sold my sight, oh brother, sister
For a mountain of fool's gold, it's gone
Only God knows, God knows where

My soul was restless for redemption
My feet were lookin' for a place to stand
Well, I ain't got no life
And you know I ain't got no money
Just the faith of an empty hand

Amazing grace, I feel you coming up slowly now
Like the sun is risin', heat on my face
Oh love that keeps on shinin', don't let the shadow come
You know I gotta feel your healin' rays

Hitched a ride, I was a beggar
I had murder on my hands
Needed water to rinse these stains
But only blood could remove what's spillin'
And pardon me to blame

Sunday Roast

Well the Sunday roast was successful! It was a Good Housekeeping recipe from way back when, but it worked out. 'Twas roast chicken, with thyme seasoning along with bay leaves. Pretty simple. Got too excited serving it that I forgot to take a picture... Oh well. There'll be other roast chickens. =)

Right. Moving on out of the kitchen (seems to me this Sunday kitchen report is becoming a bit of a tradition), the race is on right now. Italian GP. Haven't been watching too much races as of recent.

Anyways, Kingdom of Heaven is a great movie (just in case I haven't mentioned it), so you all should see it. And if you're like Kaila who didn't watch it on the plane...go watch it. ;) Got the soundtrack too today (thank you, mother dearest), and the instrumentals are cool (they used the hurdy-gurdy!).

Well then, hope you all have a great week ahead. =) I have a newspaper to work on.

Alana encounters a Frenchman

Well, happy Sunday to you all. And how does your Sunday fare?

Yes I did it! I did it...I made bread rolls! =) Well, after making my dad some pizza and biscotti. The turnout was pretty okay. Next time, we'll have to add more eggs to glaze and try gettng better cheese. Some of the breads were more aesthetically pleasing than the others, lol. I love bread! There's something about baking bread that is absolutely amusing...perhaps the yeast, the way it rises, the way it is always (well, usually) so soft?

So then on Saturday I decide to be a dorkus and go to the library for a visit to get a kick start to my research paper. The National Library building is absolutely gorgeous (although they could've picked better tiles for the exterior, imo).

There was a Frenchman visiting Singapore sitting next to me (yeah who knows what he was doing at the library =P), sees my stack of books on the Middle Ages and tells me I should visit the Musée de Cluny. He was funny. It was amusing to see him sitting up straight (very very straight) and compare him to someone like, say, me. Hello bad posture.

The library was really cool though. It was sort of relaxing to just sit there and read and take notes.

Oh. And Life Lesson #4,892 - Don't rush out to the table excitedly with a hot cookie sheet in your hands and mindlessly place the cookie sheet on top of a plastic place mat. Yeah. 'Nuff said.

Please pray the evacuation process and all that jazz with Hurricane Katrina coming along goes smoothly. And for the families that'll be affected.

Have a great week ahead ya'll.

Cinnamon swirls and all that jazz

I've managed to successfully bake cinnamon rolls! I wasn't planning on touching on the baking with yeast for some time, following the wholemeal bread failure, but guess that didn't happen. Alas, it turned out and yeast isn't so bad to work with I s'pose. Just gotta know how to do it (as is with a lot of things). It's a good recipe, the fillings contained raisins and (obviously) cinnamon, but methinks the flavour of the cinnamon needed to be brought out more. So perhaps more butter and cinnamon next time round. It was a good start though. =P Baking is so therapeutic.

I wasn't initially planning on making 'em rolls... Middle Eastern Vegetable Stew was on the menu, but Cold Storage ran out of fresh mint so don't go grocery shopping on Sundays cause that's when everybody does!

In other kitchen mishaps, last night Lyne had the sudden urge to learn how to cook minced meat in, uh, preparation for college life. Minced meat and salsa...tasted good.

Alright, well, off the food topic (exciting as it is), how are ya'll doing?

Hmm, well, that's enough for today. I've a Turkish GP to watch and a newspaper to edit. Hope your weeekend was peachykeen and hope your week will be even better. =)

Houston, we have a problem.

...no, not really actually. Far from it! Good news brings this post. =)

Welcome home!First off, the Discovery made a safe landing home! The time was 05:11 PST at the Edwards Air Force Base in Los Angeles, California. They had landed there instead of Florida because of the bad weather in Floridaland. Oh well, at least it was a safe landing. So we shall be looking forward for the wondrous shuttle's return back home to the Kennedy Space Centre sometime soon. We managed to catch the landing on telly, and I must say, it was quite a sight... to see the shuttle descending, landing gear out and the touch down. So cool! Must've been WoW being there. Well, hope Nasa learned much from this 14-day journey (must've been some journey for the astronauts lol), and hopefully they'll get around to fixing that debris problem that keeps flew off again this time round.

And in other news, the rescue effort worked! So glad the sailors were okay. Kudos to the rescue effort and the nations that went to help out. =)

There was this absolutely wicked show on the telly about the best hot dogs in the States...and boy did they look good. And since there's no more Orange Julius in Harbourfront, the next best thing was Subway. So dinner was Subway. It was sort of  annoying having to slice up the sandwich into lots of little pieces  constantly...lol and dessert? My mom and I indulged ourselves with some sorbet courtsey New Zealand Natural. They taste great (personally like the Berryfruit and Apple flavours). So enough about dinner cause it really isn't that interesting...haha. I was actually pretty surprised that a lot of the shops were open on national day, but it makes sense, makes for good business.

The tooth extractions I had yesterday were so much more painful than the other time...and it's weird, cause I keep getting fevers the day after extractions. Ah, the things we do in the name of vanity. But we have a cool dentist. Turns out she and her nurse are both James Dean fans.

On another random note, sleep is nice. While talking to Timothy, a thought (not a very deep one but nontheless a thought) came to my head. It's weird how we need sleep but we don't really think about sleep or rave about it or anything (well, the people I know anyways). And yet when we don't get it, it affects us a whole lot. Sorta like breathing, I guess. We don't usually think to breathe and something's wrong if you're not...

So I shall leave you with that. Take care ya'll! (And Patrizio Buanne has a great record)

Passe Une Bonne Journée

All good things must come to an end...so must my French classes. The classes were fun (not to mention made for a slightly more productive summer) and met some cool people (through which one of them obtain a French Bible shall I!). Although I have to admit, I'm relieved it's all over for now because all this squashing of words in ninety hours did take a toll on my cranium. And school hasn't even started. At the same time I was saddened by the fact that I probably would never see a large majority of the people again. But such is life.

And as I sit here, typing this up, I wonder to myself... "Will I be posting this today?" Too frequently, I come on Blogdrive, start blogging and halfway through decide it's a really stupid post and stop. Ha!

So today was the final five episodes of "Lost" on AXN. (It's a really great show by the way--almost as good as Jack Bauer Power Hour).

[Spoiler Warning (sort of)] The ending was absolutely frustrating. It's like watching 24 except we have to wait longer to be able to find out what_actually_happens to them. Smart on the producer's part. Hate it when they do that. Well, I missed like 10 episodes (out of 25) so maybe the DVDs might be a good investment...after season 3 of 24 anyway.
[End Spoiler]

Moving on, I was shocked to find out about the Russian mini-sub that is stuck somewhere yonder beneath the deep blue. My first reaction when my sister told me was "Again?" following the previous Russian sub that was never retrieved in time (was it ever retrieved?) and all the sailors in there just tapping on the walls... But I'm glad that they're allowing for international rescue and all that jazz... Was watching the news and saw Super Scorpions (whatever they are--sounds pretty spiffy though, looked it too) being loaded from Britain and the States... Hope alls well. Jia you to the rescue effort!

Speaking of which! The Discovery is set to arrive one of these days! A couple of days back my sister and I were watching a live interview from space...ha. Spiffy. Ironically BBC aired it and nothing on CNN. Set to arrive on the 7th of August I believe? Which is tomorrow? Well, technically two days from now considering the time difference. Hope they'll be arriving safely. And on the subject of arrivals, hope ya'lls have a safe journey if you're somewhere up there in a plane or in an airport...have fun. =)

Anyhows, I shall be off to bed now, so fare thee well and Yorkshire Pudding is the bomb!

J'adore le beurre de cacahuètes!

Howdy. How's it hanging?

I tried baking bread. It didn't quite work out. Maybe I didn't let the yeast rise enough, maybe the baking time wasn't enough, maybe it was the wrong kind of yeast. Whatever the reason, it didn't quite work out. The bread was sort of heavy and dense, and that was just a little bit frustrating. Maybe a different recipe next time? Anyhow, two really cool sites for all that good kitchen stuff, you should go here and here.

Hmm, what else what else. Languages are just the most bizzare things. Some of the French grammar stuff is not making a lot of sense. As if English did. But it's pretty cool how something that sounds like gibberish can mean something to somebody else. [cue Mr. Burns voice] I love it! Ya, methinks that's been mentioned before.

I was about to post pictures from Sarah's birthday but seeing as there will be other picturey events coming up within the week, I will be posting those pictures along with the other ones just because. Pictures do lighten up a page a whole load.

And update from the German GP... Fred won! Excellent! But, much to my dismay, Rubens is slipping. He finished tenth. Somewhere in the points would be great. Somewhere on the podium would be très bien.

Well then it's off to do homework now. Ya'll take care and get enough sleep [coughElizabethT.H.Hcough].

Oh and...Timothy- You'll be happy to know I ditched cow milk for soy milk...love it!

The Most Wonderful Thing About Tiggers

Yep, the voices of Tigger and Piglet have passed away, Paul Winchell and John Fiedler respectively. Winchell died on the 24th June and Fiedler the following day.

Anyways, French GP this weekend, don't forget to tune in this Sunday for the race (which we hope will be better than the US GP). And...the city of the 2012 Olympics will be announced on the 6th! Renault for the French GP will be having the Paris 2012 signs on their cars.

Well, I was supposed to be cleaning my room (again). Ya'll take care.

Parlez vous Français?

Well hello hello. How are you all doing?

Well two days after work, I've resigned from my post. Haha. A bit sad but that's the way the cookie crumbles. I'm sorry for breaking the pact Sarah!! It's just the long standing hours. From this, I've learnt to appreciate cashiers more because it really is not easy. Emphasis on the "not".

Apart from that, French classes have commenced and c'est fabuleux! You (yes you!) should go sign up here or at your nearest Alliance Française. Go go go! =)

I miss Daily-F1.com. The best Formula One website on the Internet. Hoho.

Anyhows, ya'll take care.

Lyne eat lots of ice-cream hoho. =)
